What Are Shorter Generated URLs'?

ShortSecure.Com offers two different lengths of Generated URLs, one for non-registered members which is 36-characters in length (ie: http://shortsecure.com/?5b8f3a0d0bz7) and a shorter URL for our registered members that is 32-characters (ie: http://shortsecure.com/?r4e96by4).

Neigher of these lengths should be of concern for emails as the large majority of email applications do line-breaks at the 78-characters mark.

The major advanatage of having a shorter URL is just that... it is shorter! We feel anybody that takes the time to register with ShortSecure.Com deserves a little extra! (err: extra as in less ;)

What Is The IP Address Lockdown Feature?

Think of the IP Address Lockdown as an additional layer of protection (and AFAWK the only service in the industry to provide this) that you can use to limit the ShortSecure.Com URL to only be viewable/click-through-able by a specific IP-Address, thereby enableing you to lock-down the URL to only those within your given organization. Note that in order to use this feature you must have an account with ShortSecure.Com and provide your account information when submitting a new URL to ShortSecure.Com - It will ONLY allow the IP-Address within your Account Details.

What Is An Exclusive Generated URL?

When none members submit a URL to be generated into a short url ShortSecure.Com automatically checks to see if somebody else has already submitted the URL and if ShortSecure.Com generated a ShortURL. If ShortSecure.Com has already generated a ShortURL than ShortSecure.Com simply passes along the previously generated ShortURL to the member.

For Registered Members, regardless of whether somebody has already submitted a given URL, every single time a Registered Member submits a new URL we will generate a specific ShortURL just for that member!

What Is A Click-Through Limit?

The "Click-Through Limit" provided by ShortSecure.Com allows you to set a maximum amount of times that your generated ShortSecure.Com provided URL can be clicked-through.

This is a great way to setup a system that ensures that a URL you want to share will not be abused.

Say for instance you want to share a ShortSecure.Com URL with a family member, perhaps a really long URL to a photograph gallery, and you are pretty sure your family members are never going to click on it more than a dozen times or so. Well, by putting a value of "15" into the provided area, you can rest assured that if your ShortSecure.Com URL gets passed around the internet by mistake, no more than 15 people are actually going to be able to view your gallery!

Note that if you enter a value, it cannot be higher than ten-thousand! Common sense (to use at least) says if you really need to use this feature, chances are you are not going to need to limit a link from being clicked-through more then 10-thousand times...
